Name and Type of School.
The official name of the school is Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri Port Harcourt (NNSS PH). The school is a co-educational full-boarding secondary school.
Date of Establishment.
NNSS PH was established on 6 April 1994, the pioneer students reported on 14 November 1994 and it was commissioned 11 March 1995.
NNSS PH a is located at Harold Wilson Drive in Borokiri, an old suburb, 4.1 km from Port Harcourt metropolis, the capital of Rivers State.
Purpose of Establishment.
As the NN expanded to the east with the opening of bases/units/establishments and the deployment of ships, the need for welfare education of personnel in this area increased. NNSS PH was thus established to meet the yearnings of naval personnel in the Eastern Naval Command for welfare education in the east. Like its predecessors, its primary role is to provide qualitative education for secondary school aged children of serving and retired NN personnel, other services and civilians.
Leadership and Management.
The school is managed by the School Management Committee headed by the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral JO Aikhomu. The day-to-day running of the school is overseen by the Commandant and a management team. The pioneer Commandant was Commander EC Anyadike who retired as a Commodore. The present Commandant is Navy Captain EO Okoh who is assisted by the Deputy Commandant Lieutenant Commander LB Ayeni. Other members of the school management team are:

NNSS PH has a students’ population of 1400 from JSS 1 to SSS 3. Each class is organised into 6/7 arms snamed after Nigerian Navy Ships (NNS). These are Agu, Ayam, Barama, Damisa, Ekpe, Ekun and Ohue. The students are administered in 4 houses named after 2 past Chiefs of the Naval Staff, a retired Director of Naval Education and a retired senior naval officer. These are Admiral S Saidu and AA Madueke, Commodore M Otiko and Commander AP Diete-Spiff.
NNSS PH traditionally post a strong academic tradition spurred on by a clear motto: hardwork and discipline. Its academic activities are envisioned to meet the educational objectives of the National Basic Education curriculum which covers the 3 domains of learning namely: cognitive, affective and psychomotor development. NNSS PH is also very active in co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Consequently, it engages in sports, debates, quizzes, cultural activities, vocational, talent hunt and other entrepreneurship development activities. These activities are geared to enrich the learning experiences of students.
Some very notable recent achievements of the school are as follows:
a. First in Battle of Brains and Geo-challenge in the Rivers State.
b. Two silver and one bronze medal at the National level of the International Junior Science Olympiad held in Abuja.
